~Skim~
I must say I enjoyed reading this book, I especially enjoyed the images of this book, but there where a couple of things that had me confused. For instances, was skim having a sort of relationship with her teacher? Because if I am not mistaken one day while they were outside having there usual smoke and talk they kissed! But it seems like right after that the teacher just kinda up and leaves school. I was wondering why she did that, did someone find out? or was she just uncomfortable? I would have liked to know more about that situation. I also thought the issue of suicide that been brought up alot for it to have been a childrens book. I felt as if by the end of the book the friends sort of shifted. But I still enjoyed reading this book.

Class key Terms and Image
All of these images I have chosen represent some form of the key words covered in our course material. I choose to illustrate the body, relationships, make-up, the "writer" and barbie. When I looked at the image of Demi Moore with absolutely have nothing on but paint. I love Demi Moore but I feel her image future perpetuates that idea of the perfect body. I like the way relationships where presented as well as the writer. I feel as though these where true forms of these words. And if you all have noticed the real "barbies" I have in my picture. These women are beautiful and look like they have no flaws but I'm sure you all recall the video of the dove evolution commercial how much a computer can change your appearance is amazing.

Duhamel, Denise "Kinky"
I really enjoyed reading this book and i found it a really easy read. The poems sometimes got tedious but for the most part I truly enjoyed the book. My favorite poem would have to be "Barbie Joins a Twelve Step Program" it gives a version into the fact that even Barbie has bad days the opening of the poem or exert is hiliarious.
Barbie is bottoming out,
she's sitting on the pity pot. She hasn't the know-how to express
any of her emotions. Before she even gets
to her first meeting, she takes the first step, admits
her life has become unmanagable.
I found it funny to compare barbie to a actual human who is having problems "managing their lives" I guess I just feel good knowing that even somone as "PERFECT" as Barbie can have problems and needs help every once in a while. (lol)

Beyonce/ Etta James "At Last"
When Comparing Etta James original song "At Last" to Beyonce's version I found that Etta James' version is slower and doesn't really follow the melody of the music and she seems to be really thinking about the person she wrote the song for. I also felt like she kinda over did the song by not following along to the melody but I also think that makes it more authentic. While Beyonce's version was actually ment to commerate Etta James. Beyonce played Etta James in the movie Cadillac Records, I also heard that Beyonce song "At Last" at Obama's inauguration which upset Mrs. James. But I felt like Beyonce's version of the song was more soulful and she followed the melody of the song a little more closely. I also thought after watching the videos that she tried to evoke Etta's personal apperance and I felt like she kinda over did it on that note. I also think Beyonce was singing more to the crowd and it was a performance for the crowd.

BJD Movie vs Film
Before starting the novel BJD, I had previously watched the movie so the image of Renee Z, stuck pretty throuoghly in my mind. As I read the book i found that they left key scence out in the movie. Probaly for a more realistic effect, Although I do like the movie BJD i found I enjoyed reading the novel more (possibly b/c I enjoy reading). I enjoyed the dramatization of B's mom in the novel, how she ran away with her spanish lover and was smuggling money from her friends. It was hiliarious. None the less, I feel as though I enjoyed them both equally.

What is a writer?
To me a writer is anyone who takes the time out to write. No matter what the topic is or what the writing is about I believe anyone can be considered a writer. Although I do believe there are varying degrees of writers who am I so say that someone is not a writer. When I close my eyes and image a writer a see a petite women, with a french bun, reading glasses and loads of books stacked on her desk neatly with a reading light. Why a women? I am not sure when I closed my eyes thats what I saw. But when I image a personal writer or personal writing I image someone siting under a tree with a journal or note book carelessly writing about their hopes and dreams.
I guess I believe a writer can come in all shapes and sizes.

Article Comparison
Change your attitude change your life and 14 things you don't (want to) know about women where the articles I read and I found that there was a dramatic difference in the themes of the articles. The article change your attitude change your life was geared towards women, it provided women with the insight to look inside themselves as a postivie reenforcement for change. It also used words such as change, powerful, succesful and affirm to give women hope and strength about their futures. I found this article in ebony magazine and although this particular magazine is not directed at women it does have a lot of specific gender oriented articles that provide a positive light on women.
But the article I read in esquire magazine (men mag.) 14 things you don't (want to) know about women from first sight through me for a loop. If you look at the title it seems as if there is a pun after don't (want to) know. As i read this article I found the things the authour said where appalling and sexists. For example question 4 states "most of us have had an abortion or three" or a comment like "we've all turned last night's underwear inside out" I would have thought to be made by a man. But as I read on I found that this particle was written by a women. what a shocker.
I think women magazines aim to impower women (at least some of the time) and to left their spirits while magazines such as esquire or GQ magazine are ment to demoralize and demine women.

Private vs Public Writing
Private writing to me is a informal approach to writing. It could be anything from a diary all the way up to a personal letter. Private writing is loosely organized and their is no formal structure to the piece as it jumps from topic to topic. But when I think of Public writing I think of journal articles, news papers or magazine articles. Public writing to me always has some type of topic and is usually widely distributed in public reading places and areas. I find a lot of public writing to have very little substance and sometimes quiet boring. If I had a choice I would generally choose private writing or public to read. I find that private writing is a little more intimate.

All About Me
Hello All,
My name is Latricia Moore and I am a junior at Ohio University. Currently I am majoring in English and minoring in biological sciences. I've have just returned to school after being away for about a year an a half. I am very excited about finishing up my course materials and am looking forward to graduating next year (Hopefully). I'm energetic, hard working and very passionate about the things I do. (whatever that may be for the moment). My ultimate goal is getting into medical school and becoming Doctor Moore. I want that more than I want just about anything at the moment and I have been working very diligently to accomplish this goal. I love reading and taking long walks lol. but in all seriousness I'm a very easy going person with a true and strong passion for helping people.
